A METAPHOR FOR LIFE

A pop-up installation I created for Horizons Event Center as part of the 2024 I'll Make Me A World in Iowa event.

​

Two 48" x 72" vinyl basketball backboard designs, in black and white, one with large-scale Braille text dots and one in English text; both read the term "AND ONE."

​

The aim of the AND ONE project is to:

1. Raise awareness among communities and state governments of 1. Braille's educational and literacy benefits, and 2. the needs and benefits of more adaptive sports spaces for people of all abilities and identities.

2. Celebrate unity and inclusion.

3. Create artistic and inclusive wellness spaces.

The Iowa community received the installation exceptionally well. Local discourse around disability awareness and Braille was sparked. These conversations centered around personal stsocial change, fostering healing and empowerment through sports and wellness activities, and how activating diverse spaces through art can be a real game changer.
