I AM A MULTITUDE, 2025

Site-specific immersive installation
Anderson Gallery Drake University
Des Moines, Iowa, USA

Blue WAC lighting, sheer fabric, pine, Braille, books, LED, faux foliage, sound, found objects, mixed media

95 × 20 × 11 ft.

Created for my solo exhibition at Anderson Gallery, I AM A MULTITUDE transforms the gallery into an immersive environment exploring identity, healing, and the layered nature of lived experience. At the center of the installation, a contemplative courtyard enclosed by sheer black curtains offers a space for rest and reflection, surrounded by illuminated Braille works, archival materials, handmade books, and symbolic objects that invite multiple forms of engagement.

Throughout the gallery, thousands of black butterflies trace the neurological pathways of traumatic brain injury using EEG brain mapping as both visual language and metaphor. Moving across walls, ceilings, and architectural space, the butterflies transform invisible patterns of injury, recovery, and adaptation into a landscape of movement and becoming. Rather than illustrating disability, the installation considers how lived experience is carried within the body while positioning accessibility, sensory engagement, and reflection as essential components of contemporary installation practice.
